This was the last wedding of 2012 for Stonermedia.  It was filmed in lancaster, pa at the Convention center, as well as the Quit Museum.  The horse and carriage seen in the video was a surprise from Matt for Alli; she loved it!

I normally just post my short edits here, but I wanted to take a minute to write a little about what goes into editing one of these videos. 

Some companies have a formula about how they edit their videos, but I always tell my brides that their edit may not look like the one before it.  There are certain elements that go into each one, for example, dances, bits of ceremony, cake cutting, etc.  However the creativity comes in looking at each wedding different and figuring out the best way, for that particular wedding in how to tell the story.

Let me give you an example.  In october I shot Eleanor and Peter’s wedding.  Eleanor’s father was to play a special song at the reception on his trumpet.  While Eleanor was getting ready at her house, I could hear her father practicing his trumpet upstairs.  I knew that this moment had some weight, so I decided to open her video with a clip of her father rehearsing. 

This may I shot Betsy and Joe at the Horticutural Center.  They had this very fun first dance.  The way Joe twirled her around the dance floor had some inherent movie quality.  I decided that was a good thread to go back and forth with for part of the edit, in black and white.

I raise these points to illustrate that it truly is a creative challenge to do justice to each person’s wedding edit.  Something that helps me out (and that couples like) is that I deliver the short video just a couple days after the wedding.

By picking up their footage just hours after I shot it, the special moments are fresh in my mind.  I may have caught some interesting visual that if I waited weeks to edit, I would have forgotten about it, and those gems would have been buried in a mountain of other shots.

I don’t always succeed.  I am human.  Sometimes I may not know the significance of a certain article of jewelry worn by the bride, or groomsman, but I do my best.  I ask questions in order to understand the story of the day.
